This design, donated to the monastery by a friend,is an iconographic drawing of St. Nicholas, the beloved 4th Century bishop of Myra. He is a saint known for his philanthropy -- his timely gift of bags filled with gold saved three young girls from slavery. It is this deed, by very long and loose association, which has led to our modern "Santa Claus."
