One of the three reknowned fourth-century Hierarchs and Theologians of the Church commemorated in January, St. Basil also is known for his rules for and support of monastics.

The saying on the reverse: "THe universe was divinely tauby hearing your voice, holy Father Basil, expounding the nature of creatures, ennobling the manners of men. Holy Father of a royal priesthood, entreat Christ God that our souls may be saved."
