This design, donated to the monastery by a friend, is an iconographic drawing of St. Spyridon, the fourth-century bishop of Tremithus on Cyprus.
St. Spyridon was a shepherd, and in those days before the Church had decreed that bishops be chosen from the ranks of celibate monastics, a married man with children. He remained simple and humble to his death, even as a bishop, working his farm with his family, and with them, sharing their produce with the poor. Although his diocese was small and poor, he became well known and beloved through his humility. During the times of persecution, he was tortured and maimed as a confessor of the faith. Later, at the Council of Nicea, he brought a pagan philosopher to the faith, not through the great learning which he did not possess, but by his example of suffering, humility and love.
The back of his card reads: "Holy Bishop Sypridon, radiant with the light of Christ, by your prayers grant us healing of soul and body."
